A South African player, believed to be a middle order batsman, may get the chop today from the team after allegedly using racist remarks against a group of Pakistani supporters on the fourth day of the first Test at Centurion.

Cricket SA media spokesperson Gordon Templeton said the Board would issue a statement on the incidents that took place.

"CEO Gerald Majola would speak on the matter today," Templeton said.

It is reported the Pakistani management have also taken up the matter with the South African Board.

One of the South African players was on Sunday overheard on the stumps microphone shouting that the Pakistani supporters were behaving "like bloody animals" and something should be done about the "f****** Pakistanis".

The player had reacted after new spin bowler Paul Harris was shouted at and abused when fielding near the Pakistani supporters, seven of whom were later ejected from the stadium by police and one was even charged for fighting with the police.

Convener of selectors Haroon Lorgat, coach Mickey Arthur, and Templeton had listened to what the player had said. Arthur, who spoke to the media about the incidents, however appeared to be finding excuses for the player concerned.

Before the start of the Ashes series, England spinner Monty Panesar was racially abused by the spectators in Australia.
