In a dramatic turn of events, Younis Khan, Inzamam-ul Haq's stand-in for the Champions Trophy, on Thursday refused to captain the Pakistan team, saying he did not want to be a "dummy" skipper.
Younis, who was scheduled to address the media at Lahore [Images], walked out of the press conference after dropping the bombshell, which left everyone surprised.
"I don't want to be a dummy captain and the reason why I have refused the captaincy will be revealed afterwards," Younis was quoted as saying by 'The News'.
Coach Bob Woolmer [Images] was with Younis at the time of his surprising announcement, which has caused a stir with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan holding an emergency meeting with the officials.
Younis was called in to captain the side after Inzamam was banned by the ICC [Images] for bringing the game into disrepute following the infamous Oval Test fiasco.
The PCB said it had no idea what prompted Younis to make the announcement and efforts were on to find out the reasons of the regular vice-captain's sudden decision.
"Younis has not told us any reason and we are in negotiations with him. As soon as we get any details we will reveal them to the media," PCB Director Operations Saleem Altaf said.
