Rs 12.28 cr donated to quake victims

The India-Pakistan cricket one-dayer at the Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday served its purpose more than well, with 10 million Dirham (Rs. 12.28 cr) donated to the victims of Kashmir earthquake last year.

The UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, handed a cheque of Dh2.5-million to Sharad Pawar [Images], the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and Dh7.5 million to Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf [Images] for the victims of either side of the border.

The deadly earthquake that shook Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on October 8, 2005 was the severest in the state in over 120 years. Over 73,000 were killed and 69,000 injured.
