Last Updated: October 22, 2005 10:41 IST Nathan Astle and Jeetan Patel shared six wickets to set up a comfortable five-wicket victory for New Zealand [Images] in their Twenty20 international against South Africa on Friday. South Africa reached 84 without loss before subsiding to 133 all out. The Kiwis chased down the target for the loss of five wickets with 12 balls to spare.
Astle's bowling looked innocuous, but he accounted for South African captain Graeme Smith [Images] (61 off 43 balls) and fellow big-hitters Justin Kemp (8) and Mark Boucher [Images] (4). Astle finished with three for 20 in his four overs, as did off-spinner Patel, who got the better of Jacques Kallis [Images] (20), Herschelle Gibbs [Images] (9) and Albie Morkel (11). Captain Stephen Fleming [Images] opened the innings for New Zealand, scoring 31 off 25 balls to set his side on the way. The match was South Africa's first Twenty20 international. New Zealand played one against Australia in February, which they lost after taking a light-hearted approach to the game.
