Lankan batsmen in a twirl

November 28, 2005 19:34 IST

Spinners Amit Mishra and Kulamani Parida shared seven wickets between themselves and troubled the Sri Lankan batsmen, as the tour opener for the visitors against the Board President's XI ended in a draw, at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on Monday.

Heavy rain a few days before the match played spoilsport as a day-and-a-half of the three-day encounter was lost due to unplayable ground conditions.

The visitors declared their first innings at 171 for 9, and both teams decided to call off the match with only a few overs left to be bowled.

The day belonged to Haryana leg-spinner Mishra (4/64) and Railways 'offie' Parida (3/77), who snared the Sri Lankan batsmen easily.

The first Test against India at Chennai begins on December 2.

Kumara Sangakkara top-scored for the islanders with 43, laced with five fours, while Malinga Bandara and Thilan Samaraweera chipped in with 28 and 27 respectively.

Earlier, resuming at 217 for two, the Board President's XI declared their innings at 317 for 4 in 75 overs. S Sriram hit an 89-ball 61 with five fours, and skipper Y Venugopala Rao scored 46.
