Stroking the ball with ease, the New Zealand captain got his team off to a steady start in overcast conditions at Lord's despite the early loss of opener Chris Gayle for four. Fleming led from the front with a quickfire 62.
He stepped up the pace in the 13th over by striking Makhaya Ntini for a huge six over backward point before bringing up his 50 up in just 46 deliveries, lofting fellow New Zealander Chris Cairns over mid-off for three.
