Sourav Ganguly [Images] played a match-winning role as he guided Glamorgan to a record victory over Worcestershire in a National Cricket League Division One match at New Road.

Ganguly shone with both the ball and bat as he captured one wicket, that of England [Images] player and Worcestershire opener Vikram Solanki (55), before scoring a 48-ball 53 to steer Glamorgan to a five-wicket win for what was the county side's biggest win while chasing.

Electing to bat, Worcestershire amassed 273 for three in 45 overs with Stephen Moore making 104 and Z de Bruyn an unbeaten 54.

Glamorgan, desperate to avoid relegation, were in a spot of bother at 67 for three before the Indian captain flayed the bowling attack, consisting of fiery Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar [Images], to put on 110 for the fourth wicket with Mike Powell (82) to set the team on course for victory.

Ganguly smashed five fours and two sixes during his knock before being stumped by D J Pipe of spinner Ray Price when the team's score was 177.

Thereafter, Powell and David Hemp (51 not out) took the side to the threshold of victory, which was achieved with an over to spare.

The target was five more than Glamorgan's previous best victorious reply that had come against Essex two summers ago.
