Pak security experts to visit India
October 11, 2004 19:12 IST
A group of security experts would visit India to take stock of the arrangements ahead of Pakistan cricket team's tour of the country in February- March next year.
"It would basically be like what the Indians did when they toured in March-April this year. The security team would hold discussions with the officials of the BCCI, police and government agencies to confirm the level of security that would be given to the Pakistan team," Pakistan Cricket Board sources said.
They, however, said the visit by the security experts did not mean that the side had security concerns about the tour.
"This would be a routine visit and does not mean that Pakistan has security concerns about playing in India. Pakistan's policy is very simple; it is keen to keep on promoting and regularising cricket ties with India," they were quoted as saying by local daily The News.
They also said that PCB had confirmed February 26 as the starting date of the tour although it had not received the detailed itinerary.
"So far BCCI has not sent any tentative itinerary or any indication in which it has said it would not schedule any of Pakistan's matches at any specific venue like Mumbai."
Pakistan had asked for a tentative schedule for the three-Test and five-one-day game tour and also wanted the Indians to schedule two side games before the first Test.
They also said that Pakistan were keen on playing their Tests in Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
The last time when Pakistan toured India to play Tests and a triangular series, none of its matches were scheduled in Mumbai.
