Saluting the Legends

In the first Test at Lord's in 1982 Kapil Dev took five wickets in the first innings, three in the second and also hit 41 and 89. Alas! all in a losing cause. The Haryana Hurricane -- who led India to the 1983 World Cup win at Lord's in 1983 -- received his award from then BCCI president N K P Salve.

Other batsmen honoured at the event were the late K S Duleepsinhji (173 in 1930), the late Vinoo Mankad (184 in 1952), G R Vishwanath (113 in 1979), Ravi Shastri (100 in 1990), Mohammad Azharuddin (121 in 1990), Sourav Ganguly (131 on debut in 1996) and Ajit Agarkar (109 not out in 2002).

Bowlers honoured were: the late Mohammed Nissar (5/93 in 1932), the late Amar Singh (6/35 in 1936), the late Ramakant Desai (5/89 in 1959), B S Chandrasekhar (5/127 in 1967), Chetan Sharma (5/64 in 1986) and Venkatesh Prasad (5/76 in 1996).
