India vs New Zealand                 October 10, 2003

Day 3: Scorecard | Report | Complete coverage

Nathan Astle defied the Indian bowlers with a mixture of compact defence and steady strokeplay. He reached his 50 in the first session of play as New Zealand went into lunch at 118 for 4.

Astle holds the record for the fastest double century in Test cricket. 222 runs off just 168 balls against England in March 2002.

Whenever he is down and out, Astle watches a video of that memorable innings.
