New Zealand were making a stand after being reduced to 88 for the loss of five wickets. Scott Stryis on 52 was leading the fightback. The right-hander lofted left arm chinaman bowler Brad Hogg on the leg side, and Michael Bevan at wide long on dropped a simple catch just near the boundary line. At this stage New Zealand were 139-5 in 36.1 overs.
