Polly is a cracker

But soon the burden of captaincy started to tell on Pollock. The wins did nothing to raise his profile as skipper, but the crushing losses against Australia just before the 2003 World Cup had critics clamouring for blood.

Unpreturbed by the uproar, Pollock thought he was safe. He continued to play his cricket and played it well. His average with the bat in Tests as captain was 41.58, and an amazing 21.37 with the ball.

Little did he know what was going to happen next.
