Openers Vinayak Mane and Wasim Jaffer steered Mumbai to a ten-wicket victory over Himachal Pradesh on the fourth and final day of the Group 'A' Elite Ranji Trophy cricket league match at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Needing 124 runs for an outright victory, the Mumbai openers went on the attack from the word go and reached the target in just 21.1 overs and 104 minutes.
Following the victory, Mumbai have maximum points (12) in either group and booked a place in the semi-finals.
Himachal, resuming at the overnight second innings total of 282 for seven, could add just five more runs before being dismissed for 287 off 87.2 overs, 25 minutes after start of play on Tuesday.
Mumbai skipper Paras Mhambrey picked two of the three wickets to fall, including that of Rajiv Nayyar, who was caught by wicketkeeper Vinayak Samant for 54 (3x4).
The other overnight not out batsman, Rahul Panta, was caught by Mhambrey off Avishkar Salvi for three.
Vikramjeet Mallick was the last man out, bowled by Mhambrey without scoring. Kapoor Singh was not out on zero when Himachal's innings came to an end.
Mhambrey was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets while leg spinner Sairaj Bahutule (three for 71) and Salvi (two for 61) chipped in with important wickets.
