As a player and person, Ponting does not know how to take a backward step. But, recently, he conceded that his failure on the tour of India in 2001, when he scored just 17 runs at 3.4 in five innings, helped to trigger the form surge that has seen him score more runs than any player in the world this year [11 matches (15 innings) have seen him accumulate 1391 runs at over 100 runs an innings.]
"Looking back to India a couple of years ago, the reason I didn't succeed over there was because I didn't back my technique enough and it cost me," Ponting said. "I am pretty quick on my feet against spin and that is what I have tried to do since that tour, keep improving my play against spin and be more aggressive."
