Soon the selectors really will have to find a replacement for venerable old sage of English cricket.

He, however, is not keen to name his successors, and believes "England need to find someone who can bat in the top six".

"There are 'keepers who can bat who are progressing very nicely. It's just making sure the balance of the team is right to give England the best chance of winning," he told BBC cricket web site.
