Muthiah supporters seek Dalmiya's suspension
The tussle for supremacy in the Board of Control for Cricket in India took a dramatic turn on Friday with around 20
affiliated units seeking the suspension of Jagmohan Dalmiya for allegedly tarnishing the image of the board.
Former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur and Delhi Cricket Association sports secretary Sunil Dev said around 20 members of the board, owing allegiance to president A C Muthiah, have decided to move a resolution at Saturday's annual general meeting, seeking the suspension of Dalmiya.
Dalmiya, a former president of the International Cricket
Council and presently chief of the Cricket Association of Bengal,
is contesting against Muthiah, who is seeking a third
term in office.
Dalmiya had on Thursday alleged in Calcutta that the policies
pursued by the current BCCI administration are taking Indian
cricket to the brink of collapse. He also alleged that instead
of taking remedial measures, the BCCI bigwigs are busy in trying
to stop the secretary and treasurer from attending the AGM.
Attempts were made to contact Dalmiya for his
reaction, but he was said to be busy in a meeting.
Dungarpur and Dev sought to draw a parallel between
Dalmiya and Punjab Cricket Association president I S Bindra,
who, they said, had been debarred from representing his unit
for two years for criticising Dalmiya and the ICC in the
controversial television rights deal.
"Why not the board suspend a senior member like Dalmiya,
who had occupied the highest office in the world body of the
game but had criticised its president and all office-bearers,
besides the board itself," they asked.
