Ghambir, Mane star in drawn match

Openers Gautam Ghambir and Vinayak Mane scored double centuries as India drew the second under-19 cricket Test against England in Madras on Tuesday.

India, overnight 241 without loss, declared their second innings at 492 for 4, after following-on.

Needing to make 325 for a win in 41 overs, England were 64 for 2 when play was called off in the eighth mandatory over.

The day belonged to Ghambir, the stylish left-hander from Delhi, and Mane. The duo achieved career-best scores and also set a record of sorts by making 391 for the first wicket.

Mane was the first to go, caught at midwicket by captain Bell off makeshift medium pacer Muchall. His 201 came in 312 minutes and contained 23 fours and four sixes.

Gnaneswar Rao departed in similar fashion, caught by Sadler off the bowling of Muchall.

Thereafter, Ghambir and Alind Naidu kept the scoreboard ticking. Ghambir reached his double century at the stroke of lunch, driving the ball to mid off for a single off Sadler.

However, he was run-out in the 77th over, attempting to take a third run after driving Muchall to long on.

Tremlett swiftly threw the ball to wicketkeeper Wallace, who did the rest.

Ghambir occupied the crease for 356 minutes and had 25 hits to the fence, besides two sixes. Naidu made a useful 35 before being caught by Sadler off Panesar.

With a tame draw on the cards, the visitors lost Nicky Peng, the first innings century maker, for no score. Ian Bell made just seven before being bowled by Vidyuth.
