With 3G network reaching the world's highest peak, making calls from the Mount Everest has become faster, easier and cheaper.

Ncell, a mobile phone and internet operator in Nepal, has set up a 3G base at an altitude of 5,200 metres (17,000 feet) near the village Gorakshep.

With the 3G base station, the locals, climbers and trekkers in Khumbu Valley will be able to avail fast internet service and 3G service, in addition to the current voice services available.

A total of eight base stations have been installed in the Everest region. Earlier, trekkers had to depend on expensive and irregular satellite phones for communication.
