Warning the inefficient and corrupt employees in the state, the Punjab government on Wednesday said it will soon launch a systematic drive to identify laggards and weed them out.

The state government will also start a monthly appraisal system for civil officers, besides of district police chiefs.

Making these announcements, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the government would, however, honour those employees who were toiling day and night to serve people.

Presiding over a meeting of district grievances redressal committee, Badal said all public servants must work with the spirit of serving people and any employee creating hindrance in implementation of welfare policies had no place in the government.

He said laggards would have to pack up as the state government was moving with the motto of "perform or perish".

Expressing concern over unprecedented price rise, he alleged that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre was solely responsible for the situation.

"India is the only country that allows future trading in essential commodities, allowing traders to artificially hike the price by speculative trade," Badal said.
