The organised sector in India has created 739,064 jobs between January and September 2010 and 394,700 more jobs are estimated to be added in the current quarter, according to MaFoi Randstad Employment Trends Survey (METS), an HR services company.
In its latest projection for October-December 2010, the survey says that India is almost back on track with the high growth rates it had achieved before the economic crisis.
At the beginning of this year, METS predicted creation of 1 million new jobs in the year 2010.
The latest survey reflects a more-than-anticipated growth in the hiring sector of India with a few sectors such as healthcare, real estate and construction, hospitality and IT & ITeS leading this momentum.
The survey is based on responses of 660 companies in 13 industry sectors in eight cities - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
These companies were queried about hiring in the first nine months of the year and hiring intentions for the next three months.
The METS findings suggest that while advanced economies are still going through the process of recovery from global recession, the Indian economy has shown strong signs of comeback and has gained momentum during the first two quarters of the fiscal year.
Of the sectors covered in the survey healthcare, real estate & construction, hospitality and IT & ITeS are among the top contributors to the employment base, while energy and transport were relatively moderate performers.
The healthcare sector reported the largest employment generation in the year 2010 by generating 2,60,052 jobs, followed by sectors like hospitality, real estate & construction, IT & ITeS which have joined the 100,000-plus jobs pack for the year 2010.
Hospitality sector clocked 165,700 jobs in 2010, IT & ITeS sector reported 1,16,700 jobs, followed by BFSI, Non-Machinery Manufacturing, Media & Entertainment and Education, Training & Consultancy which have joined the 50,000-plus jobs pack.
Amongst the cities surveyed, Delhi & National Capital Region (NCR) have reported greatest employment generation by creating 113,897 jobs in the year 2010.
This region has created 44,183 jobs during October-December 2010, which is the highest in the year so far.
This was closely followed by Mumbai with 107,806 jobs in 2010. BFSI, tade, real estate and hospitality sectors have played a key role in this growth, according to the survey.
