Commonwealth Games allocation increased

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has proposed to substantially enhance the allocation for the Commonwealth Games 2010 from Rs 2,112 crore (Rs 21.12 billion) in the Interim Budget to Rs. 3,472 crore (Rs 34.72 billion).

While presenting the Union Budget for the year 2009-10 in Lok Sabha today, Mukherjee said the Commonwealth Games present the country with an opportunity to showcase our potential as an emerging Asian Power.
