A note issued by the HRD ministry for clearance of Expenditure Finance Committee has been returned by the finance ministry with the suggestion that the proposal may be considered during the 12th plan, official sources said.

The other members of the committee are A K Dey, former director of IIT-Bombay, K Narayan Rao, member secretary of AICTE, and the directors of the IITs who have been given the responsibility of mentoring these institutes.
As per the detailed project report, submitted to the Union HRD Ministry by National Association of Software and Service Companies, each new IIITs will come up in partnership with a group of private companies. Each IIIT will have a capital base in which the government's contribution will be less than that of the partnering companies.
The committee, headed by Maruti Udyog CEO R C Bhargava, has already visited some of the IIMs and has completed its deliberations on the matter pertaining to administration and excellence of the institutes. The IIMs have already hiked their fees from this year. IIM-Ahmedabad had announced steepest increase of 175 per cent in the fees of its first year post-graduate programme from Rs 200,000 to Rs 5,50,000. Similarly other IIMs have increased their fees.
