Chasing 323 against a sharp, and well-rested, Australian team in the field was going to be tough. The rediff.com expert thought West Indies would find it hard to surpass 270. So the initial pressure index (PI) was 140.
Chanderpaul fell early, Gayle crawled painfully before going and Samuels flashed, more in despair than hope. At 20/3 after 10, the PI was a daunting 168.
Lara tried to put the innings back on rail with Sarwan and Bravo, but neither partnership got big enough. And when Lara fell for 77 after the 35th over, the PI had climbed to 171.
Winning from this stage even with a Lara in full flow was very hard. Without Lara it was impossible.
