To say the Indian American community has come into its own is an understatement – over the last few years, the community has outperformed every other ethnic group across the United States, in all social and economic indices, while increasingly developing its political profile and influence.
In recognition of its hyper-achieving tendencies, India Abroad instituted the Person of the Year award in 2002, to recognize that member of the community who, in the calendar year in question, is first among equals, and whose achievements have helped raise the bar even higher.
Through these awards, India Abroad has over the years built a roster of role models for the community to look up to, to admire, to emulate and even to top.
And now the marquee event on the Indian American calendar is back – on March 28, at a gala event at the Gotham Hall in New York City, India Abroad unveils the Person of the Year 2007, picked by a jury from the hundreds of nominations sent in by the readers.
