British soldier killed in Iraq

A British soldier was killed in al-Zubayr, 7 miles south of Basra, on Monday, according to BBC.

This is the first direct combat death for the British and brings the number of Englishmen killed in the campaign to 17.

Unconfirmed reports said the soldier was a tank commander who was killed by civilians.

Meanwhile, efforts continued to locate two British soldiers missing in action since Sunday.
