March 22, 2003 23:15 IST

Four American soldiers have been killed in combat in central Iraq, reports said on Saturday.

American troops are reportedly involved in some fierce fighting near Nasiriyah, a key town controlling access to a bridge crossing the Euphrates on the way to Baghdad.

But the Pentagon has not yet confirmed the incidents.
