One man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of Indian immigrant Balbir Singh Sodhi in Arizona on Saturday, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation's hate crimes unit joined the police in investigating the killing.
The police identified the man as 42-year-old Frank Roque and charged him with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and three counts of shooting.
A report in a local paper said the man shouted, "I stand for America", as he was being arrested.
The gunman, who came in a van, fired at Sodhi at least thrice while he working at his gas station.
As Sodhi fell, the gunman drove to another gas station and fired at a clerk of Lebanese descent who was working in the store attached to it.
He also fired at a house later.
No casualties were, however, reported in the second and third attacks.
Sodhi is survived by wife and three sons, aged 22, 24 and 27.
He had immigrated from Punjab about ten years ago and was running a gas station.
His family members said it was clearly a hate crime and not robbery attempt, as no cash was taken.
Both Sodhi and Saad Saad, owner of the second gas station at which the gunman fired shots, had complained of some people hurling verbal abuses at them ever since Tuesday's terrorist bombings. But the neighbours had reassured them of no danger to their lives.
