US resumes bombing of Kandahar, Kabul

After a short break, United States jets carried out a heavy bombing raid on the Taleban stronghold of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, an agency report said.

The Taleban claimed eight people were injured when one of the bombs fell in the centre of the city.

"It (raids) started at 5:00 am (0600 IST) and went on into the morning. Bombs fell on suspected Arab and Taliban bases in and around the city," one Kandahar resident was quoted as saying.

The report quoting a Taleban spokesman said other raids were carried out near Kabul, and in the key northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Meanwhile, the US has hijacked Taleban radio frequencies in Kandahar and has started broadcasting messages and music, the Afghan Islamic Press reported.

US propaganda broadcasts had warned people in the region to keep away from the Taleban and told the militia soldiers to leave Taleban or 'risk death'.
