Saddam condemns attacks on Afghanistan

Saddam Hussein, the president of Iraq, on Sunday condemned the United States-led attack on Afghanistan and said it fell outside international law, state television reported.

"The true believers cannot but condemn this act, not because it has been committed by America against a Muslim people, but because it is an aggression perpetrated outside international law," a communiqué, read out on television after Saddam chaired a meeting of his aides, said.

"These methods will bring only greater instability and disorder in the world," the statement said.

"Peace, security and stability will only come about when the aggressors cease their aggression and grant justice to those aggressed, notably the Palestinian and Iraqi people. Peace will come when the aggressors stop supporting Zionism at the expense of the Palestinian people and Arab rights."
