Citing government sources ABC television on Sunday night said an American killed in the revolt by Al Qaeda and Taleban prisoners 'was affiliated with the CIA'.
"US government sources now confirm ... that an American affiliated with the CIA was killed today (Sunday) in the firefight. A second American was injured," ABC said on Sunday.
The television channel said a CIA official declined to comment on the report.
US defence officials in Washington earlier denied any serviceman had been killed, but did not directly address whether another category of US personnel might have been involved.
If confirmed, the death would be the first combat casualty suffered by the United States in their seven-week-old military offensive.
