French President Jacques Chirac, while praising Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for his 'courageous' stance in supporting US-led war against terror, promised help in rescheduling Pakistan's massive debt commitments.
Musharraf has won much praise in the West for his staunch support of the US-led campaign in neighbouring Afghanistan, despite growing opposition in Pakistan.
During talks on Wednesday night with Chirac, Musharraf voiced his determination to remain part of the anti-terrorism coalition.
During dinner with Chirac, Musharraf brought up the issues of Pakistan's massive foreign debt, of around 38 billion dollars, and of international aid.
"France supports international aid efforts to Pakistan, notably in the programme of aid and reforms under discussion at the World Trade Organisation (WTO)," Chirac responded.
France also supports 'generous treatment' of the debt problem by the Paris Club of creditor nations, he added.
