Putin offers help to rescue US soldiers on Afghan soil

Amidst repeated denials by the United States to the presence of captured American soldiers with the Taleban militia, Russian President Vladimir Putin added a new twist by offering to help rescue US special forces soldiers.

But, the Russian president ruled out sending Russian troops on combat missions to Afghanistan.

"Even now, the Russian army is helping the United States, and not virtually, but actually," the Russian leader said in an interview to ABC network.

He said Moscow was sharing with Washington intelligence information and its experience of conducting military operations in Afghanistan.

"And we should also help the United States in rescue operations, including on the territory of Afghanistan," Putin said.
