French journalist Michel Beyrad was handed over by the Taleban to Pakistani authorities at the border.
Beyrad entered Pakistan through the Torkham border post around 0625 hours (local time) where French ambassador to Pakistan Yannick Gerard was present to greet him.
Beyrad had sneaked into Afghanistan on October 19 through the tribal areas in Pakistan along with two Pakistanis.
He was arrested when he was moving around wearing a burqa (veil) in Gushta area, north of Jalalabad.
He was carrying no travel documents, but possessed a satellite phone.
The Taleban charged him with espionage and tried him.
The Taleban released him on Saturday, saying they had not found any proof of his involvement in spying.
In October, the Taleban had captured a British woman journalist for a few days before releasing her.
