New Afghan interior minister
to visit India before weekend

Afghanistan's Interior Minister Younous Qanooni is likely to visit India before the weekend, informed sources said in New Delhi on Thursday night.

The sources said Qanooni is likely to meet Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh during his visit.

Qanooni's visit is the first high-level contact between the new interim government in Afghanistan and India.

The interior minister belongs to the powerful Northern Alliance which also has other major portfolios including defence and foreign affairs.
