Seeking to play down the significance of United States President George Bush's reference to terrorist outfits with a 'global reach', a senior US official said not too much stress should be laid on 'definition' as Washington was determined to wipe out all such outfits in its international fight against the menace.
"I don't think we should dwell too much on the intricacies of a definition right now when there are groups that are so clearly associated with murdering and killing innocent people," Undersecretary of the Treasury for International Affairs John B Taylor said at the Foreign Press Centre of the state department on Tuesday.
"This is a global effort," said Taylor. "I want to emphasise that it is not sufficient to focus simply on organisations which we suspect to be operating in the United States. Most of them operate in many countries".
The definition of global terrorist outfits include "the organisations that act in different ways around the world," the undersecretary said.
On tracking down financial assets of terrorists, he said over $60 million of assets - of 154 terrorists and designated organisations - have been blocked.
