Prints, water colours, ceramics, sculptures in the Capital

  • Atelier 2221 hosts an exhibition of prints and water colours by B.C. Sanyal till May 22. The exhibition is coinciding with his 90th birthday and is in aid of an Artists' Retreat in the Andretta village in the Himalayas.

Water parks are steadily becoming a popular Indian way to cool off. Addresses to have a splash in New Delhi:

  • Polo Amusement park, New Delhi is famous for its slides -- the fun slide and the super slide. The park has about 20 rides including a lazy river, a wave pool and a frog slide.

    Its rates:

    • Rs 200 for those above 4'6" from Monday to Saturday. This price covers all rides and can be taken innumerable times.
    • Rs 150 for those above 3'3" and below 4'6" from Monday to Saturday. This price covers all rides and can be taken innumerable times.
    • Rs 300 for those above 4'6" on Sundays and holidays. This price covers all rides and can be taken innumerable times.
    • Rs 250 for those above 3'3" and below 4'6" on Sundays and holidays. This price covers all rides and can be taken innumerable times.
    • Those below 3'3" are free.
    • Fifty per cent discounts on tickets after 1800 hours on Saturdays and after 1900 hours on Sundays.

  • Oysters which is located within the Apu Ghar amusement park in New Delhi is equipped with a slide, a water pool, a water cushion ride among other attractions.

  • Wet and Wild on the Jaipur highway, near New Delhi, has a large pool, slides and totally nine rides.

    Rates: the park charges Rs 100 for children below 12 and Rs 150 for adults. Actually the park is open to members and their guests (A refundable Rs 50,000 deposit for lifetime membership and a charge of Rs 3,000 annually) but the park admits outsiders from time to time at its discretion.

    Hours: 1030 hours to 2030 hours daily. A few rides are open till 2230 hours and the restaurant is open to 1100 hours.

Go karting is becoming a popular sport in India. Seven tracks are open in New Delhi, Chandigarh, Bombay and Pune. Racing tracks are said to be coming up in Lucknow, Mahabaleshwar, Ahmedabad and Indore.

Says a go karting track owner, Surendra Hiranandani, "Indians like it. Baseball may not catch on in India. But go karting has."

Go karting, which has become trendy the world over, usually attracts racing enthusiasts keen on graduating to as big dreams as Formula racing.

    National Rail Museum for kids

    The National Rail Museum in New Delhi is the place to head with the kids on a rainy afternoon.

    The museum offers picnics, joy rides, a souvenir shop, interactive kiosks, models of old trains and more. It is possible to take a guided tour around the museum.
