Top 15 Best Paid Sports Teams in the World
English Premier League side Manchester City leads a list of best paid sports team in the world, according to a new study.
The Global Sports Salaries Survey 2014, compiled by sportingingtelligence.com and ESPN The Magazine, showed the average first-team player at City is now paid £5.3million a year (£102,653 a week).
While Chelsea, another Premier League club, has cut their wage bill to help them comply with UEFA’s cost-control measures, a new study has shown that City continues to outstrip American sporting giants like New York Yankees, as well as iconic Spanish football teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid, in terms of average salaries paid to their stars.
Two giants from American baseball, the New York Yankees and the LA Dodgers, as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona, come in behind City to round-off the top-five in the list.
The other teams in the top 10 bracket also include the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA (at No 6), Bayern Munich (No 7), and Chicago Bulls of the NBA (No 9).
The Global Sports Salaries Survey (GSSS), produced for ESPN The Magazine in the USA, has been tracking comparative pay at major sports teams for five years.
