Switzerland's Guerdat wins jumping gold
Steve Guerdat of Switzerland won Olympic gold in the individual show jumping event.
There was a jump-off for silver against the clock on a shortened version of the course later on Wednesday between Gerco Schroder of the Netherlands and Cian O'Connor from Ireland.
The former won the second place.
Norway's Larsen wins men's canoe sprint K1 1000m gold
Norway's Eirik Veras Larsen won the Olympic gold medal in the men's canoe sprint k1 1000m at the 2012 London Games on Wednesday.
Larsen finished with a time of 3 minutes 26.462 seconds at Eton Dorney in London to claim Norway's first gold medal of the games.
Canada's Adam Van Koeverden won the silver with a time of 3:27.170 and Germany's Max Hoff won the bronze with a time of 3:27.759.
Norway now have three medals at the games with Canada collecting their 12th and Germany collecting their 28th.
Australia take men's skiff 49er gold
Four-times world champions Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen of Australia took gold in the Olympic men's skiff 49er medal race on Wednesday by winning five of the 15 rounds.
The New Zealand duo of Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, who chased the Australians to win silver at the 2011 and 2012 world championships, secured their first sailing medal of the Games.
In the overall sailing medals table race, pressure was on the British team of Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes to keep their noses in front of arch rivals Australia.
Hungary win men's K2 double gold
The men's K2 double was won by Hungary's Rudolf Dombi and Roland Kokeny.
The Hungarian duo jostled for the lead from the start.
They finished ahead of Portugal in second and Germany in third in the tightest race of the day.
Canoeing: Hungary wins women's K4 gold as well
The Hungarian national anthem reverberated around the Dorney Lake course on Wednesday as the eastern European country took the early honors against its fierce rival Germany in the Olympic canoe regatta.
Hungary, which alongside Germany has dominated the flatwater disciplines at recent Games, powered to gold in the men's K2 while the women's K4 won the final race of the day to deny Germany its fifth straight Olympic title.
Germany, which had started the first day of the Olympic canoe finals as favorite for at least two of the four events, won one gold, one silver and two bronzes.
"I cannot tell you how happy I am," a beaming Katalin Kovacs from the women's Hungarian K4 told reporters on the side of the lake after finally winning gold in the event to go with three Olympic silvers.
Kovacs won gold medals in K2 in Athens and Beijing.
"It's an incredible feeling when something you planned comes true." Her only regret, she added, was not being able to share the feeling of victory with her former crew mates from the silver-winning boats.
The sight of the eight women's fours powering for the line in the shortest and most dramatic race of the day, sending water splashing everywhere and roared on by over 20,000 fans, capped a fine first day of medals for a sport that rarely features in the public domain outside of the four-year Olympic cycle.
