Uruguay striker Luis Suarez emerged from a month of treatment on his injured knee to score both goals as Uruguay beat England 2-1 to keep his team's World Cup hopes alive and leave England's hanging by a thread on Thursday.

Suarez scored with a clever first-half header and struck the winner five minutes from time with a trademark powerful shot to almost certainly eliminate England from the tournament.
The controversial Liverpool striker had knee surgery last month and missed the opening game against Costa Rica.

Suarez nodded home Edinson Cavani's chipped cross after 39 minutes.
In the second half Suarez - the scourge of Premier League defences all season - lashed in the winner in the 85th minute after England failed to deal with a length-of-the field punt by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

Suarez said his two-goal match-winning performance against England in Thursday's 2-1 win in World Cup Group D was the perfect response to his critics.
Uruguay joined Italy and Costa Rica, who play on Friday, on three points at the top of the group.
