Yuki breaks back into top-200

May 04, 2015 16:36 IST

Yuki Bhambri broke back into the top-200 after 15 months, thanks to a solid performance at the ATP Taipei Challenger, where he made the semi-finals to leap to number 186 in the latest rankings.

After a jump of 30 places in the ladder, Yuki is now only 13 places behind India number one Somdev Devvarman (173), who slipped four spots.

If Yuki can manage a good show at the Karshi Challenger in Uzbekistan this week, he has a good chance to be country's top singles player.

Yuki had achieved his career-best rank of 143 in February last year but his position suffered after he missed on-court action due to injury.

If he can remain injury-free, Yuki can better his best ranking this season.

Meanwhile, Ramkumar Ramanathan was the next best Indian at number 226, closely followed by Saketh Myneni (239).

In doubles, Leander Paes (23) continues to be the top player from the country. He was followed by Rohan Bopanna, who gained two places to be at number 24.

In the WTA rankings, Sania Mirza kept her number one rank in the doubles chart while Ankita Raina was best in singles at number 235.
