Mumbai Marines notched a 4-2 victory over hosts Chennai Cheetahs to put their campaign back on track in the Bridgestone World Series Hockey tournament, in Chennai, on Tuesday.

The Mumbai team dominated the proceedings for most part of the match, scoring through Devinder Walmiki (12th minute), Anup Anthony (24th), Ajmer Singh (48th) and Bimal Lakra (52nd).

The Cheetahs scored through Imran Warsi (4th) and Sunil Yadav (68th).

In another match in Bangalore, a hat-trick by former India drag-flick ace Len Aiyappa enabled Karnataka Lions get the better of Chandigarh Comets 3-2 and register their first win in WSH.

Aiyappa scored in the 12th, 20th and 27th minute from penalty-corners.

The Chandigarh side scored through Ramandeep Singh (38th) and Bharat Chinkara (63th).

Playing their third match in four days, the Cheetahs looked tired and jaded after arriving in Chennai from Delhi on Tuesday morning, while Mumbai registered their second win in four matches.

In the first two quarters, Cheetahs held sway and their goalkeeper, Jasbir Singh, was at his best. They went into the lead through Pakistan international Syed Imran Warsi following their first penalty-corner.

After the equaliser, in the 12th minute, through Walmiki, the visitors raised the intensity of their game and kept invading the rival citadel.

In the second quarter, Ajmer Singh converted an indirect shot following a penalty-corner deflection by Walmiki.

The Cheetahs' Brent Livermore and Adam Sinclair worked in tandem, but their efforts were thwarted inside the Mumbai circle.

Mumbai were swift in using their chances and former India international Bimal Lakra succeeded in swelling the scoreline with a powerful drive-in following a penalty-corner.

The Cheetahs reduced the margin to 2-4 when Yadav converted a penalty-corner.
