World Boxing C'ships: Pinki replaces Mary Kom, Priyanka in for Sarita

Pinki Rani replaced an injured M C Mary Kom, while Priyanka Choudhary came in for the suspended Sarita Dev in the Indian squad announced for the Women's World Boxing Championships to be held at Jeju, South Korea from November 13 to 25.

Sarita is currently serving a provisional ban, which was imposed on her by International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) for not accepting the bronze medal in the Asian Games at Incheon earlier this year.

A 16-member senior women's team, consisting of 10 boxers, three coaches, one doctor, one physiotherapist and a manager will form the squad in the upcoming tournament.

The selection of boxers were made on the basis of performance in the National Boxing Championships that was organised by Boxing India at Raipur, Chattisgarh from October 11-16.

All the selected boxers are present national champions in their respective weight categories.

Pinki, who has come in place of Olympic medallist Mary Kom, had won her first gold in the international event held in Indo-Sri Lanka duel Boxing Championships at Colombo in the year 2010.

She was awarded the 'Best Boxer' for winning gold in the Arafura Games held in Darwin, Australia in the year 2011. She also won a silver at the Asian Women's Boxing Championships held at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in the year 2012.

She also participated in the Women's World Boxing Championships, which was the Olympic qualifying event for 2012 London Olympics but was unfortunate not to qualify.

Sarita's replacement, Priyanka won a bronze medal in the Asian Women Boxing Championships in 2010.

Sarjubala (48kg) is the winner of the 2011 Women's Youth World Boxing Championships held at Antalya, Turkey.
