Indian youngster Pranjala Yadlapalli made a confident start to her junior Wimbledon campaign with a straight set win over Colombia's Maria Fernanda Herazo Gonzalez in her girls singles opening round, at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Sixteen-year-old Pranjala, seeded 15th, handed a 6-4, 6-2 thrashing to her unseeded opponent in the first round, which lasted slightly over one hour.

Pranjala broke her rival twice in each set while dropping serve one time. She saved two break points en route the win.

"I served well and was aggressive. My ground strokes were good and I played some good backhand winners too. I think my game suits the grass court," Pranjala said.

"It turned out to be easy win. Playing at Wimbledon main draw is so good. She is a good player but I played well so won it easily," she said.

Pranjala next faces the winner of the match between Swiss girl Rebeka Masarova and American Michaela Gordon on Tuesday.

In the boys singles, India's Sumit Nagal will open his campaign against Argentina's Juan Pablo Ficovich.
