Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said his former club Manchester United lacked 'a bit of an identity' under the tutelage of sacked manager Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal was shown the door despite United won the FA Cup. This was believed to be due to the Old Trafford club's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

On the other hand, Jose Mourinho, the former Chelsea manager, is being widely considered as the favourite to succeed the Dutchman at the helm of the Old Trafford club.

While admitting that he still holds a special place in his heart for United, the Portuguese international said he hoped Mourinho could bring the good times back to his former club, the Guardian reported.

Ronaldo also dismissed a possible return to Old Trafford, insisting that he wants to stay at Real while describing the Spanish giants as the best club in the world.
