Australian controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios has announced that he will call curtains on his career if he wins the US Open, the fourth major of the season at Flushing Meadows.

Ahead of his opening-round clash against Great Britain's Aljaz Bedene, the 21-year-old maverick opened up on his Twitter account to a public Q and A, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

While replying to a question of one of his fans, Kyrgios said, "If I won the US open now u (sic) would never see me again."

Kyrgios, who has been placed in the same half of the draw as previous champion Andy Murray and third seed Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland, recorded his best result at Flushing Meadows in 2014, when he reached the third round.

Earlier, the Australian had expressed his desire to walk away from the sport before he turns 27.
