* After rain led to the cancellation of all matches outside of the roof-covered Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday, the tournament looks to make up for lost time with a busy schedule featuring 87 matches.

* Fans, players and organisers will keep a close eye on the forecast with wet weather potentially returning on Sunday and again during the second week of the tournament, which wraps upon September 10.

* All eyes will again be on 2006 US Open champion Maria Sharapova following her defeat of world number two Simona Halep as she takes on Hungarian Timea Babos in second-round action.
