John Terry has paid tribute to Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese was sacked by Chelsea for the second time, taking to Instagram to describe his former manager as "the very best I have ever worked with".

Here's everything you need to know about former Chelsea manager Mourinho

5 reasons why Chelsea sacked 'Special One' Mourinho

Defensive stalwart Terry formed a strong bond with Mourinho during the manager's first spell at StamfordBridge, when the west London side won back-to-back league titles.

The same bond was in evidence last season, when the Blues romped to the title and League Cup, with Terry an integral part of the success.

However, cracks in the relationship surfaced this season as the team's form slumped, with the first signs appearing as early as August when Mourinho hauled Terry off at halftime during a 3-0 defeat to ManchesterCity.

Despite their strained ties towards the end of Mourinho's tenure, Terry had nothing but praise for his former boss in the wake of his sacking.

"Thank You doesn't seem enough. Sad sad day," the Chelsea captain wrote.

"Gonna miss you Boss. The Very Best I have EVER worked with, unbelievable memories together. #boss #friend #specialone #bestever @chelseafc"

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has extended his gratitude to the club's sacked manager Jose Mourinho, saying that the players will miss him.

The 28-year-old midfielder posted a picture of him along with Mourinho celebrating Chelsea's league title success last year, and tweeted, "Thank you for all you have done for me. I owe you a lot and we will all miss you. Good luck in the future."

Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that there was no option left with the club but to sack the manager following their 1-2 defeat against top-placed LeicesterCity.

Chelsea had cited `palpable discord between manager and players` as the reason behind the dismissal of Mourinho.

It is believed that Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, who served as an interim coach of Chelsea in 2009, would make a return to the club in a similar role.

Mourinho had guided Chelsea to a Premier League and League Cup double last season. He was previously shown the door by Chelsea in 2007 after a successful three-year stint at the club in which he won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.
