Parthiban, Khan lead seeds into semis

Top seed Imran Khan of Dhampur and third seed A Parthiban of Chennai led the seeded players' march into the last four stage of the Rs 300,000 Indian Oil-Servo All India Open squash championship at the Otters Club in Mumbai on Wednesday.

In the boys' under-17 quarter-finals, Imran Khan dropped the second game before beating unseeded Fateh Singh of Madhya Pradesh 9-3, 7-9, 9-2, 9-3, while Parthiban sidelined Harinder Sandhu of Chandigarh 9-2, 9-5, 9-1.

However, second seed Rushabh Vora of Mumbai lost to unseeded Sandeep Jangra of Jindal while fourth seed Manek Mathur of Mumbai crushed Sarvesh Chauhan of Jindal 9-5, 9-6, 9-4.

Jangra beat Vora 9-2, 9-6, 6-9, 9-3 on the way to the semi-finals.

In the open quarter-final matches, third seed Gaurav Nandrajog of Delhi subdued Vikas Jangra of 9-3, 9-6, 9-7 while fourth seed Sahil Vora of Mumbai defeated his citymate Supreet Singh 9-5, 9-1, 9-6.

Vikas Jingra was also sent packing in the boys' under-19 quarter-finals. Seeded fourth he was beaten by Singapore-based Vivian Rahmanan. Vivian won 9-6, 9-1, 5-9, 9-6.

In the boys' under-11 section, there was an upset when second seed Imaad Musvee of Mumbai was shown the door by his unseeded citymate Aakash Zaveri. Zaveri won 9-7, 9-1, 9-1.

In the girls' under-17 category, local girl Madhura Paranjpe caused the biggest upset when she ousted third seed Shruthi Reddy of Chennai 9-7, 3-9, 3-9, 10-8, 9-4 in a 40 minutes quarter-final match.

Girls' under-17: Madhura Paranjpe bt Shruthi Reddy 9-7, 3-9, 3-9, 10-8, 9-4; Shibani Philip bt Shahnaz Dastur 10-9, 4-9, 9-2, 5-9, 9-2; Sonali Philip bt Shaheen Madraswala 9-1, 9-0, 9-0; Alisha Mashruwala bt Shaheeda Madraswala 9-0, 9-0, 9-0.
