Top English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has joined hands with Nagpur-based Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur to take the 'Indian Slum Team' for the Homeless World Cup football tournament in Milan that is scheduled from September 6 to 14.
India, who will be featuring in the competition for the third time in succession, will be represented by a team of six boys and two girls.
Forty-eight nations, including defending champions Afghanistan, will take part in the competition.
The team prepared for the upcoming tournament at a 15-day training camp in Nagpur under the supervision of coaches Ashok Chhetri of Bengal, Andy Hookes of Scotland and Debora Ball of England.
In addition to financial support, Tottenham Hotspur will partner KVSN to provide the team with a kit as well as render coaching advice.
KVSN runs football programmes to inspire and educate the most disadvantaged members of society, including slum dwellers and drug addicts.
