Here's a chance for motorsports enthusiasts to parade their driving skills.

On Sunday, January 29, the Rotary Club of Deonar, in association with Sportscraft, will stage a Rotary Rotocross for two and four-wheelers at the Somaiya grounds in Sion East, Near Chunabhatti Rly Station, Sion, Mumbai.

Like last year, some of the best riders and drivers have entered the fray. In fact, Sportscraft has already received 50 entries, and many more should be in by the closing date for the same, on January 26.

Rotocross is an exercise in putting driving skills to the test. You don't have to bother about the on-coming traffic or potholes or pedestrians coming in your way. All you have to do is generate the right bursts of speed and negotiate a pre-determined obstacle-laden course. If you register the best time, you emerge champion in one of the many categories for which competition is slated.

Action at last yer's RotocrossTo put it simply, Rotocross it is a test of the capabilities of both man and machine. Participants have to drive around a specially chalked out obstacle-laden, zig-zag course, and each is timed to the hundredth of a second.

A 'touch' to any of the obstacles along the course entails a penalty of ten seconds, which is deducted from the final time registered by the rider during his exercise. The competitor posting the fastest/best time will be adjudged the 'Fastest Driver/Rider' of the meet.

In sum, you don't have to be a champion rider to do well; it all depends on your acceleration, turning and braking.

More than anything, the exercise inculcates riding discipline among two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers.

A bike goes through the motions at last year's RotocrossAll cars, except those with soft tops, motorcycles and scooters manufactured and sold in India are eligible for participation.

The event is being promoted by the Rotary Club of Deonar, under the aegis of FMSCI, to showcase and promote three core projects: Polio Corrective Surgeries, Burns & Skin Donation and Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation Project.

Rotary Rotocross 2012 is supported by Parle Products Pvt. Ltd. (Makers of Quality Biscuits, Confectioneries & Snacks), Eureka Forbes Ltd., Savex Computers Ltd., Sri Ganesh Group of Companies, GIC Housing Finance Ltd.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers in each class.

All entries must be submitted to Sportscraft, Chitrakut 3rd floor, Siri Road, Chowpatty Band Stand Mumbai-6.  More details are available on www.sportscraftindia.com  and www.rotarydeonar.com.
